Students Living a Message

God’s Grace Through Gifting

God’s grace is evident in all of life if we just take a moment to look for it. The following two poems were written by Shane Tanner, a high school student in our youth group. They were written during a recent weekend retreat where students were encouraged to listen for God to speak to them and boy did He ever!

Something to Say

I stand alone
And wait for my chance to see
A life once lived
A distant memory
The earth is covered
With the leaves
That fall silently
From this tree

Provide for me and answer
Oh, could you please
And show me a reason
For this suffering

The process is slow
Not quick at all
I need you to know
Or I’ll surely fall
Light is needed
In this darkness that plagues
to give us all something to say

Provide for me an answer
Oh, could you please
And show me a reason
For this suffering

The answer is You the reason is love
And we’ll now show the world
What You’re made of

Blind Eye

This oaken place
Limbs reaching skyward
The cold has passed
And seasons move forward
Time passes slowly here
Allowing for us to see
The harshness of this world
And it’s beauty

I see you running
And wonder why
Your problems won’t cease
Though you turn a blind eye

Like the tree limb
We fall from our place
So many things to be offered
That we’re not prepared to face
Judgment day is coming
His time is drawing near
Will you place your trust
Or succumb to you fear?

I see you running
And wonder why
Your problems won’t cease
Though you turn a blind eye
